Consumer protection is a key pillar of Illinois Shines, helping ensure Program participants have the necessary information and safeguards for a positive Program experience. In March, the IPA and its Program Administrators launched the Homeowner Handout series to help educate consumers about the decision to go solar with Illinois Shines and provide resources to help them make informed, confident decisions.
The Program is excited to add two new Homeowner Handouts to the resource library:
- Selling Your Home That Has an Illinois Shines Solar Project details how to talk to your real estate team about marketing your solar project, how to transfer the solar project to the buyer, and what your Approved Vendor needs to know.
- Buying a Home That Has an Illinois Shines Solar Project covers what questions you should ask about the solar project, how the project will be transferred to you, and how to keep the project in the Illinois Shines program.
Spanish versions of both these handouts will be available at a later date. Previous Homeowner Handouts, Selecting a Solar Company: Green and Red Flags and Solar Loan Financing, are available on our website in English and Spanish.
The Homeowner Handout series joins a growing library of consumer resources on the Illinois Shines website, including Introduction to Illinois Shines: Solar Basics and More, also available in Spanish, the Disclosure Forms Deep Dive tool, Program Violations Reports and Consumer Complaints Reports, Help for Stranded Customers resources, Consumer FAQs, and the Program’s Complaint Center.
