The Program’s newest case study spotlights seven municipal solar projects in Harrisburg, Illinois. The city government partnered with a local Approved Vendor to develop solar on City Hall, the Fire Department, and Water Department buildings, among others, through Illinois Shines’ Small and Large Distributed Generation categories.
The case study highlights how Harrisburg leveraged solar to reduce energy costs, generate long-term savings, and support workforce growth by creating new opportunities for former coal miners to build careers in clean energy. It also offers insights for municipalities, project developers, and community leaders interested in advancing distributed generation in Illinois, highlighting how local partnerships and visible project success can help build trust in solar and support long-term economic transition.
