Case Study: How Pontiac, IL Converted 42 Acres into a Productive Agrivoltaics Community Solar Project Through Illinois Shines

The Program’s newest case study spotlights Walldog Solar, a Traditional Community Solar project in Pontiac, Illinois, that’s using agrivoltaics and a pollinator-friendly habitat to deliver clean solar power, while ensuring that the land can return to 100% agricultural production at the end of this project’s lifecycle. In addition to generating renewable energy, the project is increasing local bill savings for 775 Community Solar subscribers, prioritizing workforce equity and economic development, and investing in local nonprofits to strengthen the local community.

This Illinois Shines case study demonstrates and details the economic and equity opportunities that solar projects can deliver, including how the developer engaged Equity Eligible Contractors in project construction, providing a significant economic boost to local laborers and the community. For added community benefit, the AV also made contributions to area nonprofits in conjunction with its project development, reflecting its efforts to be a community partner and neighbor.
