Illinois Shines Releases Guide for Real Estate Professionals Navigating a Home Sale with Illinois Shines

The Illinois Power Agency prioritizes educating consumers about the decision to go solar and has developed a variety of resources to support Program understanding and encourage awareness of available consumer protections. To complement its library of consumer-oriented materials, and in light of the growing number of homes with energized Illinois Shines projects, the Program today published the resource Navigating a Home Sale with an Illinois Shines Project Installed: Guide for Real Estate Professionals.

The Program prepared this guide following feedback from participating homeowners that navigating a home sale with an Illinois Shines solar project installed can be challenging. Many homeowners expressed that their real estate agents, in particular, needed further support in understanding the Program. In response, the guide is designed to help Illinois real estate professionals navigate the distinct sale process and includes overviews of:

  • Illinois Shines
  • Solar panel ownership models, including purchase, lease, and PPA
  • Renewable Energy (REC) Contracts
  • Legal and administrative logistics
  • Key takeaways and a quick reference checklist

Navigating a Home Sale with an Illinois Shines Project Installed: Guide for Real Estate Professionalsadds to the Program’s library of resources and support, including its Homeowner Handouts series and other brochures, the Disclosure Forms Deep Dive tool, FAQs, as well as tools and support available at the Program’s Consumer Protection Hub.
