IPA to Host Information Sessions, Offer Technical Assistance on Solar Tax Credit Opportunity for Tax Exempt Entities

The Illinois Power Agency (IPA) is hosting a series of information sessions to ensure that tax-exempt entities purchasing solar and other clean energy assets have the resources they need to make use of a new federal tool enabling them to get reimbursed for 30% or more of their project costs. Join the IPA to get the facts about these incentives from a trusted source and learn more about the free technical assistance the state is offering!

Elective Pay:
Local governments, public school districts, and other tax-exempt organizations can now receive tax credit reimbursements for 30% or more of the costs of their clean energy projects from the federal government, on top of the solar incentives available at the state level through IPA’s two programs: Illinois Shines andIllinois Solar for All.

  • If you are a tax-exempt entity that has purchased (or is in the process of purchasing) solar, geothermal HVAC, energy storage, electric vehicle chargers, or other types of clean energy assets, you are eligible to make use of Elective Pay (also called “direct pay”) to claim federal tax credits, even though you don’t pay federal taxes.
  • Despite recent changes to these tax credits, there is still time to claim them, and you don’t want to miss out on upcoming deadlines!

Join IPA at one of its upcoming information sessions to learn more, get your questions answered, and see how we can help! The IPA is offering technical assistance to ensure your organization is able to leverage all of the federal tax credits available to your project.

Specific details regarding time and location of each event will be provided following registration confirmation.

The IPA wants to ensure that local governments across Illinois leverage these tax credits for their solar and other clean energy projects. Combining them with IPA solar incentives can significantly lower the cost of solar and other projects, thereby shortening the payback period. To facilitate these benefits, the IPA is providingfree technical assistance on Elective Pay for tax-exempt entities. Attendance at these in-person events is not a prerequisite for receiving technical assistance. Visit the IPA’s Elective Pay website to learn more.
